Sailing Level I | Sailing Level II | Sailing Level III
We offer sailing courses on the weekends for all levels of sailors, from those just learning to sail for the first time to the experienced sailor interested in learning to race. These are group classes, appropriate for persons age 14 and up. For younger children, ages 9-15, please see our Windsurfing and Sailing Summer Camps. Or, if you're interested in sharpening up your skills in private lessons, we offer those as well.
Discover the dream and prepare to “sail away” in your own Capri dinghy, a 14’ long sloop! We’ll teach you all the basics to get you out on the water, safely maneuvering your sailboat around the lake. Tacking and jibing (turning), sail trim, nomenclature, knots, and water safety are among the myriad of subjects covered in this fast paced and exhilarating course taught by certified instructors. Successful completion will result in a certification, so students may return at their leisure to rent boats!
Appropriate for ages 14 and up. Students should bring comfortable clothes, a jacket or fleece, a towel and change of clothes, lots of sun protection, a lanyard to secure their glasses around their heads, a bottle of water, and non-skid/non-marking shoes (tennis shoes, dock shoes, or Teva sandals work great!). Courses include all necessary equipment and a text, if applicable.

This is the class that completes the triangle of you, the boat, and the wind. Here, you will finely tune your sails for optimal harnessing of the wind and gain a lot of sail theory. The recently restructured class offers something to everyone – those wanting to become proficient sailors, the junior sailor, the relaxed weekend racer intent on having fun, or the competitive Olympic hopeful. Advanced topics may include advanced boat handling, sailing patterns without a rudder, sailing backwards… in control even! Highlights will include an introduction to racing encompassing race starts, mark roundings, rules understanding, tactics, and rewards. Upon completion of our Advanced Sailing course, students will be ready to join our Capri racing fleet for evening and weekend racing. Students should possess at least intermediate level sailing skills and bring a notebook for taking notes.
